Terry Gross Staff Picks #1: "Spicy Legato"
Our first release in an ongoing 'stay at home' series of digital releases. Over the course of our collective quarantine, we'll be mining through the past 4+ years of Terry Gross rehearsals and jams in an effort to help us all pass the time, 20 minutes at a time. Minimal edits and mixing; raw and presented as-is. "Spicy Legato" is made up of two performances from 8/1/19 and 8/15/19.
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
With all respect due to Nick DiSalvo, who is incredibly talented, the proggy vocals are not what I love the most with Elder. What I love the most, I'll admit, is the incredible synthy, krauty goodness, from the track Sonntag on the previous album to the wonderful delving LP Hirschbrunnen. I think these instrumental Sessions were a major step in that direction, and I love them dearly for it. Coraxio
